Minnesota Golden Gophers offensive lineman Blaise Andries has been named to the Outland Trophy watch list. The Outland Trophy is awarded annually to the best interior offensive lineman in college football as voted by the Football Writers Association of America.
Andries enters his third season as a starter for the Minnesota Movers and has made 26 consecutive starts in maroon and gold since redshirting as a true freshman. His primary position is at left guard, but Andries also started two games at right tackle and one at left tackle last season. He was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention as a redshirt freshman before being elevated to All-Big Ten Third Team the following year.
Andries becomes the fourth Gopher to be named to a preseason award watch list this month. Quarterback Tanner Morgan was named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list, running back Mohamed Ibrahim was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, and wide receiver Rashod Bateman was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list.
Reached for comment on Andries and a number of other Gopher football players being named to preseason awards watch lists, our very own GopherNation said, “I love preseason awards watch lists more than I love my own children.”
