Report: Big Ten expected to vote on return to play within 72 hours

Sunday could be a big day for the Big Ten

NCAA Football: Nebraska at Minnesota Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel was the first to report that the Big Ten’s Return to Competition Task Force presented plans to a contingent of university leadership on Saturday, and a meeting between all 14 Big Ten chancellors and presidents is expected to take place on Sunday with a vote to return to play on the table. The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach confirmed his report with her source, and former ESPN writer and current Lettermen Row reporter Austin Ward is reporting “growing optimism again coming from multiple sources across the Big Ten.”

No details of the task force’s proposed plan have been made public, but Ward’s Tweets suggest that a mid-October return is at least one option on the table for the Big Ten.

Considering these reports are not coming from a TikTok “influencer” trying to build a Twitter following by banking on the gullibility of a bunch of football-deprived rubes, I’d say it is safe to start feeling optimistic. But we’ll have to wait and see what comes out of tomorrow’s meeting.

We’ll keep you posted.
