Ben Johnson secured his 4th incoming transfer this week. Sean Sutherlin is coming to the Gophers by way of New Hampshire.

Here are the details.

Sean Sutherlin

Ht: 6’5”
Wt: 200
High School: Irondale

Sutherlin has taken a long and winding road from Irondale to finally arriving at a Big Ten basketball program.

After finishing as Irondale’s 3rd all-time scorer, Sutherlin took his talents to Sheridan College, a JUCO in Wyoming. Two years at Sheridan was incredibly productive and successful. While there, he contributed to teams that finished with a 55-9 record over both seasons. His sophomore year he averaged 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists while starting all 32 games.

He then transferred to New Hampshire for his third season of collegiate basketball. As a junior for the Wildcats in 2019-20, Sutherlin started 28 games, led the conference with 12 double-doubles averaging 12.8 ppg, 9.3 rpg and 2.6 apg.

This past season, Sutherlin was injured and did not play the 2020-21 season.

He will come to the Gophers with 1 official season of eligibility (and the bonus Covid year if he chose to do so). He is not a great shooter, hitting just 26% of his threes and 56% from the free throw line. A kid who will find a role with this team that will likely be a perimeter player off the bench who will defend and rebound well for his position.
