Rounding out the quartet of verbal commitments the Minnesota Golden Gophers received this weekend is Florida linebacker Jack Pyburn. Well, it is a quartet of verbal commitments as of this writing, at least. I’ll leave the door open for more, because you never know with P.J. Fleck and co.

Scouting Report
Last season, Pyburn tallied 121 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and seven sacks in an abbreviated season. He’s also an accomplished wrestler, ranking third in the most recent state tournament at 220 lbs. Pyburn is the projected No. 1 wrestler in that weight class heading into his senior year. Though he is a linebacker at the high school level, Minnesota has him slotted for the rush end position once he is on campus. Pyburn has that first-off-the-bus size and you can easily see how his wrestling skills translate to the football field with how his physical and aggressive style of play. Pairing his speed and athleticism with his size and strength is what makes for a unique skillset and likely why defensive coordinator Joe Rossi wants him at rush end.
