It has been well discussed that the 2022 crop of local basketball players is very strong. Ben Johnson has been working tirelessly since being hired to establish relationships with these local kids and it has paid off as they have landed their target at shooting guard.
Braeden Carrington took an official visit to the U this week and has made his decision to play for Coach Johnson and the Gophers.

Here’s what we know about Carrington
Braeden Carrington
Pos: SG
Ht: 6’3”+
Wt: 165
High School: Park Center High School
Carrington was a high priority for Coach Johnson and staff. They were reportedly at every game played by Carrington this summer and he was the local target at shooting guard. He played his high school ball for Park Center where Carrington led the Pirates to the Section final before falling to Champlin Park.
In the summer he competed with Grassroots Sizzle in the Under Armor circui, leading his team to a 23-13 summer record.
Carrington is bringing a very good shooting touch to the Gophers and beginning with last season, he’s becoming a more all-around wing and ball handler. Due to the oddity of last season and the summer basketball circuit just ending, Carrington does not yet have a star rating or overall ranking. But expect that he will very soon earn a 4-star rating and land in the top 150.
Up next, watch for Carrington to work on other locals who the Gopher staff has prioritized. But with several open scholarships for next year and a deep local class, this is a very good start for the Coach Johnson’s tenure and the 2022 class.
