The Big Ten announced the kick-off times and TV assignments for the first three weeks of the regular season on Thursday afternoon. Also announced were the kick-off times for the conference’s homecoming games of which the Minnesota Gophers will take part in three this season. The Gophers will play at 11 AM three times in the first six games announced with a pair of night games, the Thursday night opener at home, and what appears to be a white-out game Homecoming night at Penn State.
Minnesota’s Thursday night opener on September 1st against Jerry Kill and the New Mexico State Aggies will kick off at 8 PM on Big Ten Network.
Week two features the Western Illinois Leathernecks coming into Huntington bank Stadium for an 11 AM kickoff on Big Ten Network.
Week three features the Minneapolis return game of the home and home series between the Gophers and the Colorado Buffaloes which also will feature the return of Mike Sanford Jr and Clay Patterson to the U. The Buffs will get a comfortable 2:30 kickoff on ESPN 2 and not an early 10 Am mountain kickoff.
A trio of Big Ten homecoming game kickoff times were announced as well opening with Minnesota’s homecoming game on October 1st when the Purdue Boilermakers come to town. As has been tradition as of late, that game will be an 11 AM kickoff with TV to be assigned at a later date.
After a bye week the Gophers head to Illinois to face the Fighting Illini for their Homecoming game on October 15th. That game will also be an 11 AM kickoff with TV to be determined at a later date.
The final Minnesota kickoff time announced is a doozy. The week after Illinois the Gophers will head to Happy Valley for Penn State’s homecoming. That game is slated for a 6:30 PM kickoff under the lights and will most likely be the Nittany Lions annual white-out game and a prime time national broadcast.
The last six games of the Gophers Big Ten schedule will be announced in the typical 12 or 6 day hold fashion meaning we won’t have any other information on the schedule until the season is underway.
