Scouting Report
In an interview with Gopher Illustrated, McCutchin recalled Minnesota defensive coordinator Joe Rossi admitting to being baffled as to why McCutchin did not already have a Power 5 scholarship offer when the Gophers extended theirs back in March. It’s not as if McCutchin has been toiling away in anonymity up to this point. He is the brother of USC cornerback Latrell McCutchin and recorded 100 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, and one interception last season as he led his team to an appearance in the Texas 4A Division-I Championship.
On film, McCutchin looks like a natural at the linebacker position. His awareness is impressive, with an innate sense of timing and an understanding of pursuit angles that sees him getting to the ball consistently and with conviction. McCutchin looks most comfortable in downhill pursuit, but has also flashed some functional athleticism in space, with the ability to get skinny to burst through creases and make tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
