Minnesota Golden Gophers true freshman quarterback Drew Vitto announced Tuesday that he will enter the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining.

Viotto did not see the field in his only season with the program.

Viotto’s departure means Minnesota will be starting from scratch at the quarterback position next season, with starting signal caller Athan Kaliakmanis also entering the transfer portal. Redshirt senior Cole Kramer is the only scholarship quarterback remaining and is expected to be the starter in the Gophers’ upcoming bowl game. Kramer has one season of eligibility remaining but has not disclosed his plans for next year. High school quarterback Drake Lindsey is currently verbally committed to Minnesota but he won’t sign a letter of intent until Dec 20.
