Minnesota Golden Gophers running back Zach Evans announced Thursday that he intends to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

Evans was limited by injuries this season but saw action in six games, rushing for 230 yards and one touchdown on 52 carries. His departure, coupled with the transfer of true freshman running back Marquese Williams, nearly decimates the Gophers’ running backs room for next season. Currently, the only returning scholarship running back will be true freshman Darius Taylor. It is possible Bryce Williams could seek a medical redshirt for this season and secure a seventh year of eligibility, considering he opted not to participate in Senior Day.
