Minnesota Basketball: Gophers get commitment from Lithuanian forward, Kristupas Keinys

Another incoming freshman added to the 2023 class, this one from Lithuania

The Gopher basketball program received a commitment this week from a Lithuanian forward. Kristupas Keinys visited campus last week and committed very quickly.

“We’re happy to have Kristupas join our program and complete our 2023-24 roster,” Johnson said. “Kristupas is long and athletic with a big upside. He’s a really tough, skilled athlete with a high basketball IQ. Kristupas loves the game, loves to compete and we’re looking forward to having his work ethic in our gym.”

What do we know about this international addition?

Well, he really is a lengthy and athletic forward, as Ben Johnson stated above. Keinys will bring some good defensive intuition, weak-side shot blocking and improving offensive game.

He most recently played for Klaipėdos Neptūnas-Akvaservis in Lithuania and in 2022 was a member of the U18 Lithuanian team where they finished 7th in the FIBA European championship.

What is next?

This should round out the roster for your 2023-24 Gophers. Keinys will battle with Josh Ola-Joseph, Cam Christie and Kadyn Betts for playing time along the perimeter (or perhaps PF if the team goes small). This gives Ben Johnson 2 true freshmen coming into the season.
